In Istanbul, police broke up a rally calling for an end to violence against women and for Turkey to return to an agreement to protect them. Police detained dozens of protesters during the rally.

Protesters attempted to march along Istanbul's main pedestrian street, Istiklal, in defiance of an order by authorities to ban the rally on security and public order grounds.

"Protesters also gathered in Spain to condemn violence against women. At least 1,171 have been killed by their partner or ex-partner since the official count began in 2003".
